The main tasks of the Archaeometry Department relate to
material analysis and dating. The research focal points are anchored in numerous national and international projects (diverse
EU projects) in the areas of the dating (authentication) of ceramic and metal objects with cast cores by means of thermo-luminescence
analysis, ceramic and metal archaeometry, provenance studies, historical dyeing technologies, as well as dye and fibre analysis
and patina research in co-operation with the Department of Technical Chemistry and Analysis using scanning electron microscopy
(SEM ED X-ray microanalysis).
Routine studies for assessments are carried out in the course of degree courses in
Conservation and Restoration sector. In addition XRD tests are completed for ongoing projects in the area of patina research.
The knowledge and results thus obtained flow into the teaching offered, which is attended by students from every discipline.
