Peter Weibel - Research Institute for Digital Cultures

Head: emer. o. Univ.-Prof. Peter Weibel
The Peter Weibel Research Institute for Digital Cultures creates a space for scientific-artistic investigations into the transformations in digital culture in light of the technological revolution. The endowment of the Peter Weibel Archive to the Angewandte provides an incomparable foundation and source of inspiration for the theoretical and artistic innovation of media art at the interface between art, technology, and social responsibility, and moreover for the development of future perspectives and scenarios for new forms and functions of digital cultures in the so-called digital age, which will be characterised by artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and biotechnology and lead to a fusion of science and art in these fields.

The Peter Weibel Research Institute for Digital Cultures is a site for scientific, artistic, and  scientific-artistic research in the framework of doctorate and other research projects. It also serves as a platform for public and international discourse about the definition of digital cultures, digital future, and the relationship between science and media art. Regular public lectures, discussions, and symposia as well as publications provide sustainable impulses in the academic community and in the discourse about society as a whole.
