A central question in architectural production is that of the material manifestation of design. In the framework of the Building Technology programme, students are provided with the opportunity to gain technical knowledge through practical work on their own projects. The aim is not only the proper application of tried-and-true constructional solutions and standard detailing, but rather the development of constructive systems that bear a logical connection to the architectural concept. Construction is seen as a chance to underline and elaborate upon the essential idea of the design.
The programmes foundation deals with the basic principles of construction, which rest upon physical and spatial laws and have equal effect in different building components. Departing from this basic understanding, a strategic way of thinking should develop in order to constructively master complex geometries.
In combination with the disciplines Structural Design and Energy Design, there is a way to achieve optimal interaction between the building elements in terms of technical efficiency and to enable a holistic view of architecture.
