Earthquake Response in Albania on behalf of the United Nations

20. July 2021
In 2019 a devastating earthquake hit Albania and severely damaged significant national cultural properties. At the request of UNOPS, an operational arm of the United Nations, Prof. Gabriela Krist and her colleagues of the Institute of Conservation provide consultancy and expertise on conservation-restoration of earthquake-damaged monuments, collection care and inventory.
The Institute made a name for itself i.e. with the earthquake response at the Patan Durbar Square in Nepal supported by the Austrian government since 2015.
From 17 to 24 July 2021 a first on site mission takes place to visit heritage sites, national and local museums throughout the country, meet and exchange with stakeholders and provide and share experience and know-how.
