Fashion design training with top professors
The Show Angewandte was initiated in order to enable students to present their creations within the context of a professional fashion show. The most promising talents of the Fashion Department at Angewandte the only Austrian institution offering a university-level diploma in the field of fashion design show their collections that have been created under the guidance of internationally renowned fashion designer and professor of the department, Hussein Chalayan. The Show Angewandte has become one of the biggest and most demanded fashion shows in the country. It is widely known nationally as well as internationally not only among fashion experts and has achieved excellent reputation over the years.
Since the early 1980s the chair of the fashion class has been filled by international fashion stars in high demand such as
Karl Lagerfeld, Jil Sander, Vivienne Westwood, Helmut Lang, Raf Simons, Viktor & Rolf, Bernhard Willhelm or like the
present head of the class Hussein Chalayan. Graduates of the fashion class have gone on to create their own labels
such as Sagan Vienna, Bless, GON, Petar Petrov, Ute Ploier oder Wendy&Jim, have assumed top-level positions in the Austrian
and international fashion sector or with renowned fashion companies such as Balenciaga, COMME des GARÇONS, J.W. Anderson,
Lanvin, Prada, Louis Vuitton, to name only a few.
The annual exhibition The Essence and Show Angewandte are the main events of the University of applied arts Vienna.
