Processing

The processing time for admission applications can take several days.

After processing of the application, you receive an email from the Office of Student Affairs either to clarify any open questions or to forward payment details for the transfer of your tuition-/Student's Union fees and the request to register your details with Statistik Austria.

Information for starting your studies

Rights and responsibilities

We recommend taking a look at the curriculum of your study programme for orientation before starting the year, as well as informing yourself about the most important rights and responsibilities of students.

The respective curriculum can be found under each Study Programme.

Legal basics about study programmes are regulated by the Universities Act 2002 - "Rechte und Pflichten der Studierenden" in § 59 as well as in the Statute of the Angewandte (both in German language).

Curriculum

A curriculum governs study programmes and creates commitment for teachers and students. Curricula include study goals and contents as well as aspects of the study process and organisation. From a legal perspective a curriculum is a decree that is issued by the senate and determines the qualification profile, the content, and the structure of a degree programme as well as the exam regulations.

New students of bachelor's and diploma degree programmes have to obtain a minimum number of 16 ECTS credits within the first four semesters according to § 59a UG (in German language). Otherwise, admission to the respective degree programme expires and re-admission will only be possible after a blocking period of four semesters.

The current progress in your study programme can be found in your curriculum analysis which you can obtain on base Angewandte in its latest version.

The duration of studies - in diploma programmes: of the study segments - determines the tuition fee charges.

Regular students of a diploma programme can complete the 1st study segment by submitting an application to the Office of Student Affairs as soon as all required ECTS of the 1st study segment are fulfilled according to the respective curriculum.

The academic year

In the Academic Calendar you can find a list of important dates, deadlines, holidays and bank holidays.

Please especially note the date of the welcome for first year students that officially kicks-off the academic year for our new students.

Registration for courses

After successful admission you can and should register for courses via base Angewandte/Teaching. When registering please note which courses you should attend according to your curriculum. The specific course offer can be found on the base Angewandte by searching for study programme/curriculum subject/study subject.

Locations and work spaces

Where you find lecture halls, studios, departments, work spaces etc. but also other important types of support can be accessed under Facilities and Support.

An access card to locations at the Angewandte is handed out to regular students upon presentation of an identity card by the porter at Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz 2. Please return the card after having completed your studies.

Student ID

If desired after successful admission to a study programme a student ID can be collected from the Office for Student's and Academic Affairs. Please bring a valid ID document (e.g. passport) as well as a suitable ID picture (in colour, on photo paper, 3,5 x 4,5 cm).

In case of loss of the student ID you have to present a report of loss - this can be done online through fundamt.gv.at (in German language) - or a report of theft from the police to the Office of Student Affairs. Please make sure it includes specifically "student ID of the University of Applied Arts Vienna". For issuing the new student ID you again need to bring another valid ID as well as a suitable ID picture.

Recognition of exams

Upon request, but only within the first year of studies, courses completed as part of other study programmes can be recognised by the Dean of Studies.

Before commencing your studies, no information about potential recognition of credits can be provided.

Financial Issues
