ERASMUS+ Traineeships

Regular students of our university (EU and EEA citizens or third country nationals who have been living in an EU country for at least 1 year) can apply for an internship. An ERASMUS+ Traineeship is a work placement of at least 30 hours per week. The amount of the grant varies between EUR 570 and EUR 670 per month, depending on the host country. Starting an Erasmus+ Traineeship is possible at any time.

The scholarship amount for the Eramus+ grant can be pre-calculated via Grant Simulator. The amount is for guidance only and cannot be guaranteed.

  • When applying for an Erasmus+ Traineeship at the International Office, a confirmation from a company or a university in another European country must already be available. The University of Applied Arts Vienna cannot arrange traineeships: these must be organized independently.
  • Study grant recipients (Studienhilfenbezieher) do NOT get additional funding from Studienbehilfenbehörde!
  • Achievements within the framework of ERASMUS+ programme MUST be recognized for the curriculum at the home university - even if you do not get any ECTS recognized for your Erasmus+ Traineeship; in this case, the achievement is listed in the diploma supplement.
  • Genereal information about Outgoing Exchange Students can also be found here: ERASMUS Student Network.
Please note: You have to be enrolled at the home university (Angewandte!) in any case, during an exchange! If your traineeship lasts longer than 2 months, you do not have to pay tuition fees  at the Angewandte (contact the student office for that), the ÖH fee has to be paid in any case!). If your stay abroad cannot be realized, the University-Tuition-Fee (if applicable) must be paid to the Angewandte!

ERASMUS+ Graduate Traineeships

The traineeship may only be started after graduation and must be completed 12 months after graduation at the latest. During the traineeship, the student may not be enrolled at any university or pursuing a course of study (also no leave of absence!).

Since a certain amount of bureaucracy is necessary for the processing of traineeships, the application must be submitted at least 6 weeks before the completion of the studies.

Traineeships outside ERASMUS+

It is also possible to do traineeships outside the ERASMUS+ program. If you are accepted, you can apply for the International Exchange Grant (Auslandsstipendium) from the University of Applied Arts Vienna (excl. graduate students). Forms are available at the International Office.
IMPORTANT: Register by yourself as MOBILE in the student office for the duration of your stay! In this case, depending on duration, you pay no tuition fees at the Angewandte (if applicable), only the ÖH fee. All students who would like to undertake a stay abroad and might not be able to do so due to economic difficulties have the opportunity to apply for the EfM (Equality for Mobility) scholarship. Please refer to the announcement for details.

Blended Intensive Programs (BIP)

An innovation in the Erasmus+ program generation 2021-2027 are the Blended Intensive Programs (BIP). Through these, the use of innovative learning and teaching methods is to be promoted and the possibilities of online cooperation are to be used. A BIP involves the physical and virtual mobility of a group.

What can be funded?
The development of short, intensive and joint curricula and activities aims to offer students and teachers the opportunity to participate in a short physical group mobility (5-30 days) combined with a virtual phase at an Erasmus+ partner university. The duration of the virtual mobility phase is not predefined and can vary as needed. The physical mobility can take place at the hosting institution or at another location in the host country.

A BIP must be developed and implemented by at least 3 higher education institutions, from at least 3 different Erasmus+ program countries.
For a BIP to take place, a minimum of 15 persons (students and/or teachers) must participate (e.g.: 5 participants in each of 3 universities).

Funded students must be able to achieve at least 3 ECTS and receive credit for their studies at their home university, that contribute to the completion of their studies. Participation is limited to a maximum of 3 times per person to give several people the opportunity to participate in a short-term mobility.

How much funding is available?
Participants from program countries receive their funding from the respective sending university for the physical mobility phase.
Thus, when students of the University of Applied Arts Vienna go to a partner university (Inter-Institutional Agreement must be in place) as part of a BIP, they will receive the following funding rates:
  • Day 1-14: 70 EUR/day
  • Day 15-30: 50 EUR/day
  • Sustainable travel: 50 EUR once + up to 2 additional days once
  • Participants with fewer opportunities can receive an additional 100 EUR one-time plus travel expenses by distance (round-trip travel expenses).
  • University staff receives is accounted for via ERASMUS+ business trip (Dienstreise).
Further information and processing at the International Office.

Exchange at partner universities in doctoral studies

Doctoral students must have an acceptance of a host institution before applying for an exchange grant at the International Office. The intake to the host institution must be organized by the students themselves. For contact information of a relevant partner university, you can get in touch with the International Office

Exchange activities can be carried out as

  • ERASMUS+ Short-term Mobility (5 to 30 days) or
  • Long-term Mobility (2-12 months = 1 or 2 semesters; min. 3 ECTS p./month are a requirement for ERASMUS+ PhD exchange) with partner universities with which doctorate-exchange has been agreed on in the official bilateral contract.
The entitlement to an outgoing exchange to a partner university is linked to the confirmation of the supervisor of the dissertation project at the Angewandte.

The dean of studies approves submitted applications for advance notice if
  • long term: a confirmation signed by the student's supervisor is submitted, in which a valid justification and the context to the doctoral studies is written down,
  • the obligatory recognition of the ERASMUS+ study or internship is recorded in a diploma supplement.
Forms and further information to be received in the International Office.

Students and graduates on mobility in the ERASMUS+ program (study mobility and traineeship)

Students and graduates with care responsibilities (during their stay abroad), physical, mental or health impairments, who go on mobility within the Erasmus+ program, have the option of additional funding: A monthly flat-rate grant (= top-up) of EUR 250.- (short-term mobility: one-off EUR 100-150.-) or/and the refund of actual additional costs incurred (e.g. personal assistance, check-ups, sign language interpreting, transport costs, preparatory visit) with a realistic cost estimate (inclusion support) can be given.
Both must be applied for before the Erasmus+ stay, at least eight weeks ahead in the International Office. The application form is available at the International Office.

Overview of institutions: Institutions | Inclusive mobility

There is no additional funding for students (excluding graduates) with economic obstacles in the Erasmus+ program, which is why students (recipients of "Studienbeihilfe" only in exceptional cases) can apply for the university's internal “Equality for Mobility” scholarship twice a year.
In any case, "Studienbeihilfe"-recipients can apply to their study grant authority for foreign grants (excluding internships).

Students on international mobility (study mobility)

Students with care responsibilities (during their stay abroad), physical, mental or health impairments and/or economic obstacles, who go on mobility within the INTERNATIONAL (long-term mobility) program can apply for additional funding within the “Equality for Mobility” scholarship twice a year in addition to the foreign scholarship or BMBWF-foreign scholarship. Recipients of "Studienbeihilfe" can apply for the foreign or BMBWF scholarship, but are asked to apply to their "Studienbeihilfebehörde" for a foreign grant instead of the “Equality for Mobility” scholarship.
