Angewandte University Gallery

The Angewandte University Gallery provides a platform for art and cultural studies as well as artistic practice. The teaching connection plus the close cooperation with the Angewandte Collection and Archive form the basis for exhibitions, programmes, open formats, and publications that deal with current questions in respect of art and society. Works available in the Angewandte Collection enable referencing to historical and contemporary issues and allow for access in the overarching areas of art, architecture, design, and fashion – in both an international context and in far reaching networks.

The Angewandte has been working in the University Gallery rooms within the baroque ensemble of the Heiligenkreuzerhof since 1938. The former prelature of the Heiligenkreuz Monastery plus the attached Sala Terrena originally provided space for studios and since the 1980s, after the completion of extensive restauration work, the premises have been available for exhibitions, symposia and presentations.

Responsible for the programme is a board consisting of representatives from the Rectorate, the head of Collection, plus teaching staff and students of the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
