Schauraum: Martina Menegon

Curated by: Ruth Schnell and Tommy Schneider

“all alone, together” brings two realities, the physical and the virtual, together. In the Schauraum a video installation shows virtual clones of the artist’s 3D-scanned body, constrained in a dense formation resulting from an algorithmic anomaly. Their perpetual torture constantly shifts between ecstasy and anxiety. Additionally, these bodies face a similar fate in a virtual space (Mozilla Hubs), where they can be experienced beyond physical limitations.
Since the existence of cyberspace, there has been an obsession with redefining the self as well as an anxiety about body and identity boundaries. We are facing a new experience of corporealityand subjectivity, a new artificial flesh and materiality. Through these perceptible avatars, the artist proprioceptively renegotiates the fragility of both the physical and the virtual bodies and selves, reflecting on today’s situation in which we might feel all alone, together.

Another world – base Carousel

The new exhibition format “base Carousel” presents six works of art dealing with the topic “Another World”. In times of lockdown and social distancing, the exhibition asks about the possibilities to think critically about art, culture, society, politics, economy and science. How do policies manifest themselves, whether acute or long foreseeable in their longue durée, i.a. in public, private and digital space or in the form of architecture and technology? Which possibilities open up, which forms of criticism can be transferred to digital and which materials are available for artistic creation?
