This online platform was conceptualised by Philipp
Reinsberg and Magdalena Gorecka, developed with [Applied] Foreign Affairs (Institute of Architecture) - Apoorva Thapa and
Maria Bürger – and designed by EXEX Studio.
Whatever affects just one component of one ecosystem has a ripple
effect throughout the entire environment. The intricate interconnections within ecosystems necessitate a comprehensive, interdisciplinary
approach when it comes to research and design. Through a joint effort between students, educators, eco-guards, beekeepers
and carpenters in Austria and Liberia, we have crafted the Atlas of Habitats, an ever-evolving catalogue.
This growing digital platform collects data on animal habitats from unseen perspectives, allowing
for a playful process of both discovering and uncovering insights that are invisible to the naked eye. The project team undertook
an intensive, dual-location research process, employing methods such as 3D scanning, endoscopy, thermal scanning, taking measurements,
and filming natural habitats within forests, lakes, the Atlantic Ocean, and abandoned places.
The Atlas of Habitats is
a website and database that allows for new connections to be made between the individual worlds of various beings. This project
took place within the framework of the Angewandte Program for Inter- and Transdisciplinary Projects in Art and Research (INTRA)
and is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research.
