Orange
The World. UN campaign to end violence against women
This year the focus lies on the responsibility
of men - Men can end violence against women!
23.11.2022
Once again this year, the University
of Applied Arts Vienna is participating in the important UN campaign Orange the World. 16 Days to end violence
against women. Starting on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a strong
signal shall be set until December 10, the International Human Rights Day. Since this year, for obvious reasons, the usual
orange lighting of buildings will be dispensed with, other ways of visibility will be increased, such as flags at prominent
locations in front of university buildings and increased activities on social media channels.
One
can end violence against women!
The UN's campaign Orange the World this year focuses on men's responsibility.
To a large extent, it is up to them to ensure a life free of violence for girls and women and to prevent violence against
women or prevent it from happening in the first place. Part of the Orange the World 2022 campaign, therefore, is
men taking a stand and publicly speaking out and calling for a stop to physical, psychological and sexual violence against
women. Gerald Bast and Bernhard Kernegger, Rector and Vice-Rector of the University of applied Arts Vienna, are speaking out
in video contributions as part of the campaign and are also pointing out the responsibility of educational institutions in
this context.
Woman Life Freedom
In these days it is impossible to talk about the topic
Stop Violence against Women without – once again – expressing our full solidarity with the women and all people supporting
them in Iran. The structural violence – executed by the government – that happens to all women in Iran and especially
to those who stand up – courageously, numerously and unfortunately in a horrendous number at the risk of their lives – for
a violence-free and self-determined life, must be stopped. Woman Life Freedom is for all women worldwide, especially
for the fearless and courageous women in Iran.
