To mark the 140th birthday of Oskar Kokoschka (1 March 1886 – 22 February 1980), a week of celebrations is being held at the artist's birthplace, with the participation of the Oskar Kokoschka Centre at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

The Kokoschka Museum in Pöchlarn is celebrating the great painter, graphic artist and dramatist with an exhibition entitled Ein Lebensbild im Plakat (A Portrait in Posters), a lecture and two concerts.

A portrait in posters
The exhibition and lecture are an invitation to embark on a journey of discovery. In the summer of 2025, Kokoschka's lifelong commitment to successfully communicating his concerns regarding education and upbringing was the subject of the exhibition ‘Oskar Kokoschka – School of Seeing’. The Festwochen exhibition A Portrait in Posters shows for the first time a selection of posters from the treasure trove of the Oskar Kokoschka Documentation Centre and, with these archival treasures, propagates a somewhat different ‘school of seeing’, entirely in the spirit of the artist, but at the same time more far-reaching and not without a double meaning. The messages of the posters line up like signposts to the narrative of a life. They trace paths that offer the viewer's eye routes and open up side roads. Their stories ask questions and demand answers. As mentioned, the exhibition invites visitors to embark on a journey to discover the hidden picture of the big picture behind the high visual appeal of the individual exhibits.

Musical speculations about OK
The museum will celebrate Oskar Kokoschka's birthday on 1 March with a piano concert by composer and pianist Robert Pobitschka. In addition to the premiere of his composition ‘Vermutungen über OK’ (Speculations about OK), works by Mozart, Haydn and Brahms will be performed, which Pobitschka sees as being related to Kokoschka in terms of content.
