#1 Graphic Designer's Journey: Kitty Goldmann from Vienna to Santiago
Speaker: Elana Shapira, University of Applied Arts Vienna
Language: English

This talk describes the evolution of Kitty Goldmann (Vienna, 1918–Santiago de Chile, 2002) as a graphic designer and illustrator in Vienna. It also briefly explores how her early beginnings shaped her work as a commercial graphic designer in Santiago later in her career. Goldmann’s life and career were marked by devastating losses. Her designs and artwork bear witness to her resilience in the face of adversity, as well as to the legacy of Viennese modernism that extended beyond the city’s borders.

#2 On brands and national graphic identifiers in the period of Inward Development (1930-1973)
Speaker: Pedro Álvarez, UC Chile [Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile]
Language: Spanish

This talk describes the local build of modern graphic design, with emphasis on analysis of brand design and trade mark archives in Chile, not only from its visual dimension but also its social insertion during a period highlighted by the rise of mass culture, when the State was looking for re-duced external dependence after the 1929 Crisis.

#3 Jewish refugee artists and their contribution to the University of Chile
Mario Matus, University of Chile
Language: Spanish

This talk examines the significant contribution made to the University of Chile and to Chile as a whole by a large number of artists of Jewish origin who arrived in Chile as refugees during the 1930s and early 1940s, fleeing the Spanish Civil War and, above all, the persecution instigated by the Nazi regime.

#4  Kitty Goldmann contribution to the Chilean development of propaganda and posters during the middle decades of the 20th Century
Mariana Muñoz & Eduardo Castillo University of Chile
