Merit-based grants serve as recognition of outstanding achievements and relate to the study performance of the preceding academic year. The announcement is once a year for regular students at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Relevant examination period for Autumn 2024: 01/10/2023 - 30/09/2024 (= exams with examination date 01/10/2023 - 30/09/2024).

Minimum number of completed ECTS-credits: 55. Grade point average may be no less than 2.0!
Recognitions and pedagogical courses within the Art Education programme of external universities must have been completed during the mentioned period. Full-time students may apply for such grants from their third semester onwards. For multiple study majors all test scores from the University of Applied Arts Vienna shall be considered as far as the duration of studies have been completed within the stipulated period.

A merit-based grant may not be less than the amount of EUR 750 and not exceed EUR 1,500.

Funds provided through the "Allgemeine Hochschulstipendienstiftung der Universität Wien":
The application happens as part of the submission to the merit-based grant.

 

From winter semester 2015/16 on:

Application ranking will take place for each study area on the basis of ECTS-credits completed by the students and the achieved grade point average. Based on available funds and completed ECTS-credits at least one student of each study area will be selected. Further application ranking is independent from the study area. Applications of PhD students or students of individual bachelor-, master- or diploma programmes will be selected on the basis of actual credits and the process of study through the Commission of Merit-Based and Support Grants. Funds are provided through the Federel Ministry of Science, Research and Economy.
 
The application ranking must be made public and therefore, will be published on the german version of this page. Applicants will be informed concerning approval or rejection by e-mail to the address provided in our database. Please check your e-mail address on our service-site: http://service.uni-ak.ac.at/

The grant is subject to the budgetary funds provided through the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF).

There is no legal claim for approval.

Requirements

  • Submission of the application form with certificate of registration (scan/copy).
  • Documents as PDF files via Email to: sandra.reiss@uni-ak.ac.at
  • If the certificate of registration is in a foreign language, a German or English translation must be submitted.
  • Austrian citizenship, EEA citizenship (including Switzerland), or the equivalent pursuant to § 4 StudFG. Students with a nationality from outside Austria/EEA may apply if they own the "Daueraufenthaltskarte-EU".
  • Outstanding study performance (grade point average may be no less than 2.0) Minimum number of ECTS-credits: 55. The assessment "participation with success" will be disregarded for the grade point average. Grading system for studies with three-part grading scale (A, B, C): pass with distinction (A) = excellent (1), pass (B) = satisfactory (3), insufficient (C) = insufficient (5). Art Education students: Test scores from both subject majors are considered.
  • The study, or the study phase, must have been completed within the stipulated period (legally prescribed study period plus one tolerance semester) taking into account any important reasons pursuant to § 19 StudFG.


Grant applications must be submitted in full and on time according to the respective closing date as PDF files via e-mail. Incomplete or overdue applications cannot be considered.

Support grants serve the furtherance of the scientific or artistic work (e.g. degree theses, exhibition projects) of full-time students. The following are not generally funded: Fee notes, living costs/rents, study fees or purchasing of hardware. For one academic year, a support grant may not amount to less than EUR 750 or more than EUR 3,600. Applicants will be informed concerning approval or rejection by e-mail to the address provided in our database. Please check your e-mail address on our service-site: http://service.uni-ak.ac.at/

Requirements
 
  • Submission of the application form with certificate of registration (scan/copy).

  • Application deadline: from Wed, 20 March 2024 until Wed, 10 April 2024 / 12:00 noon
  • If the certificate of registration is in a foreign language, a German or English translation must be submitted.
  • Austrian citizenship, EEA citizenship (including Switzerland) or the equivalent pursuant to § 4 StudFG. Austrian citizenship, EEA citizenship (including Switzerland), or the equivalent pursuant to § 4 StudFG. Students with a nationality from outside Austria/EEA may apply if they own the "Daueraufenthaltskarte-EU".
  • Outstanding study performance (at least two full-time semesters at the university). Therefore, a submission starting with the 3rd semester is recommendable; except from it are applications of the master programme TransArts, if the bachelor programme TransArts was completed within the prescribed study period plus one tolerance semester at the "Angewandte".
  • Cover sheet with name, study programme and title of the project.
  • Submission of an assessment by the supervisor (with signature) concerning the statement of costs and indicating whether the student is expected to complete the academic thesis within the scheduled time and with above average success, based on past academic performance and her/his proposals for the execution of the thesis project.
  • Description of the future, or current project incl. work samples.
  • List of costs with financing plan for the artistic or scientific project.
  • Timetable.
  • The study, or the study phase, must have been completed within the stipulated period (legally prescribed study period plus one tolerance semester).
  • Following the completion of the funded work, a precise report (with invoices and working documentation) is to be presented.
