A Ludic Method conversation
hosted by Margarete Jahrmann, founder of the Ludic Society.
A
Ludic Method exchange by and for role-players on art and political play-things:
Johannes Grenzfurthner and
monochrom are among the most influential positions in activist and artistic play cultures; they are frequently
referenced alongside the Yes Men and other politically engaged ludic artists. This talk examines how experimental artistic
games can function as critical systems, the role of humour, fiction and DIY technologies in practice, and how computer games
can serve as platforms for social, historical and political intervention.
At the centre of the session is
an insight into an artistic practice situated at the intersection of gaming culture, media criticism and subversive technology.
A particular focus is placed on the legendary graphic-adventure series “Soviet Unterzoegersdorf,” a long-term project interweaving
political satire, worldbuilding, retro-gaming aesthetics and experimental modes of interaction.
Johannes
Grenzfurthner is an award-winning artist, filmmaker, author and performer. He is the founder and artistic director of monochrom,
an internationally active art and theory group as well as film production company. His artistic and theoretical work spans
contemporary art, activism, performance, humour, philosophy, media theory, cultural studies, subversion, science fiction,
sex tech, and debates concerning copyright and intellectual property.
