Important notice: Up from 7 January 2021 the library premises are only open to members of the University (students, researchers, and teaching staff). From 9 December for non University users lending is possible via online order and postal delivery.

Library services are available at a reduced scope and during certain periods of time only. The library team has been split into two groups, each group being present every other week, so that an uninterrupted running of the Library is secured even if a member of one group should become infected.

Monday
: 10-15 hrs; Information and inquiries available 10-13 hrs only.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 11-17 hrs; Information and inquiries available 14-17 hrs only.
Friday: 10-15 hrs; Information and inquiries available 10 -13 hrs only.

During service hours we will be available to assist you in person. Please bear in mind that library cards can only be processed and picked up during our service hours!


Who can borrow books/media?
Ordering media for Angewandte University members:

  • Books/media items located in the reading room, room 2 or room 3 are freely accessible and may be borrowed at once.
  • If you would like to order media from off-site stacks, please use the supA search portal. You will be informed as soon as the book/media is available for you to pick up. The books can be picked up from Reserved Items shelves in the entrance. Please note the distance tags on the floors!
Ordering media for Non-Angewandte University users:
  • Urgently required media items available for borrowing may be requested by sending the reservation request beforehand and will be sent to you by mail.
  • If you would like to order media from off-site stacks, from the Reading Room or Room 2, please use the supA search portal (reservation through your user account by logging in via the „Sign In“ button in the search portal supA).
  • Please check BEFOREHAND if your address is correct! (log in via the „Sign In“ button in the search portal supA, click „Personal area“ in the right hand upper corner, then click „My account“ and finally „Personal settings“). If the indicated adress is wrong, please send us an email including a scan of your proof of residence to entlehnung@uni-ak.ac.at and order only after it has been updated.
The requested media items will be borrowed and sent to your adress by registered mail.

How can I return books and where?
Angewandte University members:

  • Borrowed media items can be returned during library opening hours only by using the self-service terminals. Media that has been entered as “returned” is to be placed on the trolleys next to the terminals – such media is subsequently quarantined (risk of smear infection). To uphold the necessary standard of hygiene, it is prohibited to use media that another person placed on the book trolleys!
  • Outside of our opening hours, the return box in the Library‘s cloak room area can be used.

Non-Angewandte University users:

  • Books/media items can only be returned by mail. For all media items already borrowed, the period of borrowing will be extended week by week.  Please check your user account (access via supA).

I have no library card
At present, library cards are only issued to members of the Angewandte University.
As a student of the Angewandte, please send an e-mail to borrowing@uni-ak.ac.at submitting your residential address as well as the study programme you are registered in.  
Angewandte university staff members need only send their current residential address by e-mail. After the data has been checked, we will issue a library card and notify you when you can pick it up.

My library card has expired

  • Send an email with all the required documents to borrowing@uni-ak.ac.at.  We will let you know for how long the library card can be extended.
  • All paid annual cards will be extended by the period of time that the library was temporarily closed.

Library Property Return Receipt
Students, who for their completion of studies need a receipt to confirm that they returned all media items borrowed, are requested to send an e-mail to entlehnung@uni-ak.ac.at.

Interlibrary loans
It is possible to order items from other libraries. However, please consider that your order may take more time than usual and that not all libraries offer interlibrary loan services. Also, note that a fee is normally charged for an interlibrary loan. Please send your interlibrary loan requests to fernleihe@uni-ak.ac.at.
Course reading shelf
Currently only students or staff of the Angewandte may order books from a course reading shelf (Handapparat) as long as the teaching staff concerned give their express consent in an e-mail to the student in question and in copy to entlehnung@uni-ak.ac.at. You will be notified as soon as the ordered media have been issued to your account and may be picked up.

Books/media from other collections
Some of the media from the University Institutes are can be ordered again. Please send an email with your request to borrowing@uni-ak.ac.at.
Please note that your order may take longer than usual.

Artists' books
Dependent on a prior reservation request sent to borrowing@uni-ak.ac.at (to be received by the preceding day), Artists‘ books may be viewed at the following dates/times: Tue 15-17h, Thu 10-13h.

Separate reading desks:
The separate reading desks may be reserved and used by students and staff of the Angewandte University.

What is new, what has changed?

  • Please wear a mouth-nose cover. It may be taken off when sitting at the reading tables.
  • Please desinfect your hands before entering the Library.
  • Books/media return, borrowing and loan period extending are only possible on use of the two self-service terminals in the Library, or using the return box in the Library‘s cloak room area.
  • For hygiene reasons, the number of work stations had to be reduced. Seats (work stations) need to be booked in advance.
  • Work tables are to be disinfected prior to use by the users themselves!
  • Working in groups is not permissible.

Webinars
 
Due to COVID-19 measures, guided library tours and research workshops cannot take place in situ and will instead be carried out in form of a Webinar.
This semester, the Library offers interactive online seminars presented in a live format so that you can participate easily. What do you need?
 
  • Computer or mobile terminal device (e.g. mobile phone) with internet access
  • Headset, or head phones and loudspeaker
  • VPN access on your device is a prerequisite for the webinars New Databases, Research for Advanced Users and Research in Individual Databases.
  • Registration up to 2 days prior to the date of the webinar
  • Duration: depending on the webinar approx. 40 - 50 minutes

How do you register for a webinar?

Which webinars are available?
 
Basics for Beginners and as a Refresher

After an introduction to the Library, its holdings, and the current borrowing modalities, the webinar focusses on research using the online catalogue supA, in particular on the research of electronic resources in the catalogue. In addition, there will be tips on how to research with success and participants can ask questions in connection with this topic. The objective is to demonstrate how efficient the use of this form of available information and media can be.
Duration: approx. 40 min.

New Databases

We present the newly licensed databases of the Library, i.e. eBook Central, a multi-disciplinary platform that allows access to more than one million e-books. Also, there will be an introduction to the video-streaming platform Artfilms Digital and the e-paper portal PressReader.
Duration: approx. 40 min.

Research for Advanced Users 

This webinar will explain essentials for research in Catalog+ and the database module of supA. Also, how to search in Catalog+ for licensed fulltext and freely available journal articles. You will find out how to set up Alert Services, and how to personalize or save searches. In addition, there will be demonstrations of research in the database module of supA. This will include interpretation and filtering of search results. Also, we shall go into further research options. 
Duration: approx. 50 min.

Research in Individual Databases

We present an overview of licensed databases available in the Library so that you know about the databases relevant to your study subject. After the overview of different types of database, we go through example researches in some individual databases. Specific research tools and features of the different types of database are looked at more closely. There will be an introduction to the reference databases of ProQuest (ABM, daai, …), the fulltext database Art & Architecture Complete and the online lexicon AKL – Artists of the World Online.
Duration: approx. 50 min.

Scientific Research
We present further options to search for scientific documents on the internet. First and foremost is the search for electronically available full texts. Besides the research in library networks and DBIS, the database information system, we introduce you to specialist portals for scientific research. In addition, we provide information about various scientific search engines that give you access to freely available fulltext. 
Duration: approx. 50 min.
